Composition of Après un rêve

I decided to use graph paper to more clearly depict the melodic structure of this piece. Each step represents a higher note, and the color gradients indicate the emotional weight that intensifies with each higher note.

One of my most poignant images: The dreamer on her knees, pleading for the only world where she felt complete.

The title “Apre un Reve" (“After a Dream") frames the piece as an emotional journey in which the dreamer escapes from harsh reality into an idealized world, only to be forced to confront reality when dawn approaches. At the start of the piece, I incorporated yellow to depict the dreamer encountering her beloved in her dream; the tone filled with purity, ecstasy, and hope. As the piece intensifies, I transitioned to deeper hues—maroon, red, and purple—to symbolize heavy, deeply rooted passion and the state of euphoria in which the dreamer becomes significantly more immersed. However, as dawn approaches, I shifted to shades of darker blue to encapsulate the melancholy of the shattered dream and the dreamers' plea for her a world which ceased to exist.
